APLU Announces 2019 Institutional Award Winners

San Diego – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today announced the winners of its 2019 institutional excellence awards. The awards recognize exceptional efforts to advance degree completion, innovation and economic prosperity, community engagement, and university internationalization and were announced at a ceremony at the association’s Annual Meeting, now underway in San Diego. APLU Names University of North Carolina at Charlotte 2019 Degree Completion Award Winner
APLU named the University of North Carolina at Charlotte the winner of its 2019 Degree Completion Award. The annual award works to identify, recognize, and reward institutions that employ innovative and evidence-based approaches to improve degree completion while ensuring educational quality.

APLU Names Winners of 2019 Innovation & Economic Prosperity University Awards
APLU named four winners of its sixth annual Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) University Awards and three new IEP University Designees. IEP designation recognizes institutions with a proven substantive, sustainable, and campus-wide commitment to exemplary economic engagement, or the ways in which universities and their public-private partners contribute to economic and social prosperity and opportunity. The IEP awards, meanwhile, recognize innovative projects or programs in economic engagement.

The University of Colorado Boulder, University of Mississippi, and Western Washington University were all named IEP University Designees. Wayne State University won the IEP Talent award, recognizing exemplary initiatives in education and workforce development; University of Michigan won the IEP Innovation award, recognizing exemplary initiatives spurring innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-based economic development; Purdue University won the IEP Place award for exemplary initiatives resulting in social, cultural, or community development; North Carolina State University won the IEP Economic Engagement Connections award, the top-prize in the awards competition, recognizing overall excellence and leveraging across all three award categories.

APLU Names Cornell University 2019 C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award Winner
In recognition of extraordinary community partnership, APLU named Cornell University the winner of the 2019 C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award. In June, Cornell was named one of four regional winners of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award. The other regional winners of the 2019 W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award were Colorado State University, University of Louisville, and Purdue University.

APLU Names University of South Florida Winner of 2019 Institutional Award for Global Learning, Research, & Engagement; Three Others Recognized for Internationalization Efforts

In recognition of its extraordinary global learning, research, and engagement efforts, APLU named the University of South Florida the winner of the Platinum Level of its 2019 Institutional Award for Global Learning, Research & Engagement. The Platinum Level recognizes institutions at the leading edge of inclusive and comprehensive efforts to internationalize their campuses. The University of British Columbia, Pennsylvania State University, and Florida International University were all recognized for their internationalization efforts as recipients of Gold Level Awards.
