The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking universities’ help in recruiting college students who are interested in temporary work administering the 2020 Census. Census takers play a foundational role in our democracy. The Census impacts congressional representation as well as federal funding for programs addressing student financial need, school safety, and mental health services. In all, more than $675 billion in federal funds a year are distributed in part based on Census data.
The Census Bureau has asked that universities help promote the Census jobs page to their students and it has created a communications toolkit to assist in promotion. Census takers must be U.S. citizens, have a valid Social Security number, be registered with the Selective Service System, be able to pass a background check, and, in most cases, have a vehicle and a driver’s license.
