APLU and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) released a report detailing the success of three institutions in supporting the success of underrepresented students in STEM fields. The report, The Change Makers: How Three Universities Are Helping Underrepresented Engineering Students Succeed at Higher Rates, examined efforts at the Grove School Engineering within the City College of the City University of New York, Georgia Institute of Technology College of Engineering, and California State University, Los Angeles, College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology. All three institutions have been recognized at the bronze level of the ASEE Diversity Recognition Program (ADRP) for their diversity efforts.
The report is the result of a pilot study. It found that while institutions are increasingly effective in supporting these students, the researchers were unable to determine the effects of specific programs on overall institutional success in supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds.
