Late last month, APLU hosted a delegation of 10 government officials from Laos who are responsible for supporting Laotian technology and innovation sector. The officials visited APLU as part of a delegation sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs aimed at deepening academic and economic ties between the two countries.
APLU President Mark Becker welcomed the delegation alongside APLU colleagues Doug Steele, Alvaro Muñiz, and Caydan Henslee. The meeting provided an opportunity to share the history and significance of public and land-grant universities in the United States and how public research universities have helped facilitate upward economic mobility for students, spur pathbreaking innovations, and fuel economic growth.
