APLU’s Council on Governmental Affairs Recognizes Cate Johnson with Exemplary Public Servant Award

APLU recently recognized Catherine “Cate” Johnson of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology with the Council on Governmental Affairs Exemplary Public Servant Award. Johnson has played an instrumental role in shaping legislation, organizing, and leading congressional hearings and fostering bipartisan collaboration on science policy that enhances public research universities’ ability to advance American science leadership on a global stage. The award was presented at the Council on Governmental Affairs Spring Meeting in Washington, DC.
Since joining the committee in 2017, Johnson has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and impact in working with public research universities to advance public policies that support scientific breakthroughs and technological innovation. Her strategic engagement with stakeholders has focused primarily on the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, STEM education, research security, and the CHIPS program at the Department of Commerce. Her dedication to these initiatives has advanced pathbreaking research on behalf of the American people.
