APLU Leaders Visit Mexico to Strengthen North American Higher Education Engagement
As part of the association’s long-running efforts to strengthen North American higher education engagement and cooperation, APLU President Waded Cruzado recently led a delegation to Mexico alongside Taylor Eighmy, President of The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) who is chair of APLU’s Commission on International Initiatives (CII).

Cruzado was joined by senior leaders of several APLU institutions, including presidents, senior international officers, vice presidents for research, and faculty. APLU Vice President for International, Community, and Economic Engagement Bernie Burrola also participated in the meetings. APLU held meetings with its counterpart, ANUIES, in Mexico City to explore areas of potential collaboration around research, economic development, community engagement, and overall partnership development.
APLU also held meetings with senior leaders in the Mexican Secretariats of Public Education and Agriculture to strengthen U.S. educational and agricultural ties and advance joint educational, agricultural, and economic development. Finally, APLU held meetings with a wide array of Mexican business associations in an effort to boost economic development in the U.S. and Mexico.
Next summer, APLU is convening U.S. university senior leaders, including senior international officers and those senior leaders of colleges of agriculture, to further support U.S.-Mexico cooperation.
