APLU Seeking Institutional Partners for Research into Student Success in Intro Math Courses; Apply by March 16

APLU is seeking 25 institutions to participate in a research study on student success in introductory mathematics.

The association is undertaking the work in collaboration with the Association for Undergraduate Education at Research Universities (UERU) with funding from the Gates Foundation. In addition to sharing introductory DFW rates, 25 institutions will have the opportunity to highlight which reforms have proven effective at improving student outcomes and attend a convening alongside peer institutions to learn from the research and share key insights. Your institution can learn more about the research effort and apply to participate here. The deadline to apply is March 16.

This project is affiliated with Project EMBER, a national movement to support every higher education student to succeed in mathematics in ways that align with their personal and professional aspirations.  APLU is a key partner and collaborator with Transforming Postsecondary Education in Mathematics on Project EMBER.

Each participating university will designate one or more staff members to serve as institutional data leads and project contacts. These representatives will coordinate data submission, provide feedback on templates, and engage with APLU’s research team throughout the project.

Institutions selected to participate will receive several direct benefits, including:

  • A modest participation stipend of $8,000 to support data coordination and attendance at the in-person convening.
  • Access to benchmarking analyses that allow institutions to compare their gateway math outcomes with peer institutions.
  • A synthesized analysis of DFW rates and student success metrics that can be used to inform internal conversations with academic departments and leadership.
  • Opportunities to connect with a national network of institutions engaged in improving mathematics outcomes and to learn from proven, evidence-based reform approaches.
  • Degree Completion & Student Success
