The University of Texas at Arlington
For the last 130 years, the story of The University of Texas at Arlington and the city of Arlington have been entwined. Founded by residents as a solution to the town’s urgent need for educational opportunities—in 1895, the population’s median age was 20 and one-third were under 10—the University has sought to embody an idea articulated by the local newspaper at the time: “Good schools make good towns.” From a primary school to a military academy, from an agricultural junior college to an R-1 university, and even from the Aggies to the Longhorns, UTA has been here to offer education and opportunity to our community.
