Washington, DC – APLU President Peter McPherson today issued the following statement on the House passage legislation to bolster U.S. competitiveness.
“House passage of the CHIPS and Science Act is a critical victory for U.S. science and innovation. We’re thrilled Congress has reauthorized vital federal sciences agencies and provided new authorities to the National Science Foundation to build on its reputation as the world’s preeminent fundamental research agency to support more use-inspired research. We look forward to President Biden’s signature, but the work in Congress must go on. We urge Congress to complete the Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations process as quickly as possible with strong funding levels for science to achieve the goals of this landmark legislation.”
