APLU Hails Supreme Court Ruling Prohibiting Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity
Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ (APLU) President Peter McPherson issued the following statement hailing the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling today that ends employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
“APLU hails the Supreme Court ruling today that protects the rights of LGBTQ workers. Public research universities deeply value the role that members of the LGBTQ community play on their campuses to undertake education, research, and community engagement. As institutions that seek to advance the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, we applaud this landmark advancement of human rights. We must continually face injustices head-on to build a more equitable nation. This is the active engagement demanded of us to achieve a stronger democracy.”
