Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding the failure of the House Majority “compromise” immigration bill.
“The failure of today’s immigration bill in the House underscores the need for Congress to work across the aisle to advance bipartisan immigration reform legislation that fixes our nation’s broken immigration system.
“Those efforts should start with lawmakers providing a bipartisan, lasting solution for the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers who were brought to the country as children and know no other home than the United States. Many Dreamers are vital members of the public university community. And it is in our country’s best interests to provide them the legal certainty they deserve. We urge Democrats and Republicans to come together, negotiate, and find agreement.”
