APLU Statement on Delayed Data Collection Period for Gainful Employment & Financial Value Regulations

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities President Mark Becker today released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Education’s announcement that it will extend the data submission period to January 15, 2025 for Gainful Employment and Financial Transparency Value Regulations.

“The public university community appreciates the U.S. Department of Education delaying the data reporting deadline for Gainful Employment and Financial Value Transparency regulations. A rushed collection period risks producing flawed and inaccurate data that will serve no one well.  Today’s announcement is a step toward ensuring all stakeholders have access to accurate data, and still more are needed.”

“Already strained by the delayed and ongoing implementation of the new FAFSA, institutions need additional time and detailed guidance from the Department to successfully implement these new regulations. We urge the Department to further delay the reporting deadline to July 2025 with the recognition that institutions are still dealing with an extraordinarily disruptive FAFSA implementation. We stand ready to partner with the Department as it moves forward and urge additional collaboration with the higher education community in furtherance of a smooth and effective implementation of the regulation.”
