APLU Statement on FAIR Model
Washington, DC – APLU President Waded Cruzado today issued the following statement on the Joint Associations Group’s Financial Accountability in Research (FAIR) Model.
“The decades-long partnership between the federal government and public research universities has driven extraordinary progress for our country and world, saving countless lives through medical advances, unleashing game-changing innovations in the private sector, and enhancing national security through breakthroughs that keep our troops and the U.S. homeland more secure.
“Reimbursing institutions for facilities and administrative costs incurred while undertaking pathbreaking federally funded research is critical to continued U.S. innovation dominance. In response to congressional interest, the research community has worked with key stakeholders to develop an alternative model for reimbursing institutions for these costs in a more efficient, transparent, accountable, and fair manner. We thank champions in Congress for their ongoing support for robust investment in the federal research enterprise and urge lawmakers to codify the FAIR Model into law.”
