Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding the FY2016-17 budget deal reached between the White House and congressional leaders.
“APLU is encouraged by the bipartisan budget deal, which congressional leaders and President Obama reached earlier this week. The deal would provide some much-needed relief to the discretionary funding caps for FY2016 and FY2017, which we believe is key to providing needed increases toward important federal investments in scientific research and higher education.
“Investments in higher education and scientific research today will yield long-term economic success for the U.S. tomorrow while addressing some of our greatest challenges and opportunities. We have been advocating for such a plan and now call on Congress to swiftly pass it.”
