Decembre 17, 2013—APLU President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding the announcement of a new Gallup-Purdue University Index that will survey tens of thousands of college graduates across the country.
“Students generally seek employment and income through a college degree, but the outcomes of a degree go well beyond this. Unfortunately, the higher education community has not come up with effective and research-grounded ways to measure the wide array of additional outcomes that a college degree produces for both graduates and society at large. Understanding and measuring those outcomes is important to explaining the value of higher education to the public and to help institutions further enhance the education they provide. This new Gallup-Purdue Index seeks to measure the quality of employment of college graduates as well as their social and physical well-being among other areas. We believe the new Index is a very positive contribution.”
