APLU Statement on Michael Drake Being Named President-designate of the University of California System

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement on Michael Drake being named President-designate of the University of California System.

“Michael Drake will be an exceptional President of the University of California System. It’s a huge and complicated institution of important research universities, medical centers, and national laboratories. He has the experience, savvy, and integrity needed to advance the mission of the system. He is also deeply committed to student success as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“As the immediate past-chair of the APLU Board of Directors, I know Dr. Drake very well. I witnessed firsthand his ability to analyze complex problems and identify innovative ways for public universities to expand their impact and for ways policymakers can support them”
