Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today issued the following statement regarding the passage of the Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act.
“The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) applauds the House for passing the Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act. This bipartisan measure authorizes an array of research and development activities to accelerate energy innovation and provide the foundation for new technologies and commercialization opportunities.
“By better coordinating energy research, much of which is conducted at our nation’s public research universities, the Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act will help facilitate the discovery of new technologies that are central to producing more efficient and sustainable power. Such new technologies will not just power vehicles and buildings. They will power our nation’s economy forward.
“From making the process of turning research discoveries into commercialized products more efficient, to authorizing Energy Innovation Hubs, to advancing super computer technology, and much more, this measure will help ensure the U.S. strengthens its leadership in the development of critically important advanced energy products. APLU urges prompt Senate consideration and passage of this legislation.”
