APLU Statement on President Biden’s Nomination of Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young for USDA’s Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics

Washington, DC – Douglas L. Steele, Vice President of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today released the following statement in support of President Biden’s nomination of Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young as Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics (REE) for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

“We are very pleased that President Biden has nominated Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young to become USDA’s next Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics, where she will continue her crucial work on behalf of America’s land-grant and public universities. Dr. Jacobs-Young has been a friend and partner with the land-grant university system throughout her distinguished career. As Director of USDA’s Agriculture Research Service and her other top-level positions, she has a proven track record of delivering strong results. In her new capacity, she will build upon her many achievements while championing agricultural innovation and advancement. APLU enthusiastically supports Dr. Jacobs-Young nomination, and we look forward to working alongside her to advance agricultural research, education, and Extension across the country.”
