Jeff Lieberson

As Executive Vice President, Jeff Lieberson oversees the association’s strategy, provides daily advice and support to the president on a vast array of organizational matters, and coordinates with the association’s staff on the focus and execution of APLU’s work.

Lieberson also serves as Senior Vice President for Public Affairs, leading strategic communications for APLU and helping to support related efforts at the association’s member institutions. He is the primary staff member for the Council on Strategic Communications, which brings together senior communications and marketing leaders from APLU institutions.

Prior to joining APLU in February 2013, Lieberson spent more than 12 years on Capitol Hill. He served as chief of staff to Congressman Maurice Hinchey after working as his communications director. Lieberson also worked as press secretary for Congressman Steve Rothman, who represented his home district in northern New Jersey, and he began his Capitol Hill career in the press office of U.S. Senator Evan Bayh.

Lieberson graduated from New York University with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications. He is a lifelong, passionate New York Mets fan who believes this is the year they’re going to win it all (as he does every year). And in accordance with New Jersey state law, he is also a big Springsteen fan.
