The Committee on Faculty Affairs (CFA) is composed of Assistant, Associate, Vice Provosts/Chancellors for Faculty Affairs, or similarly titled positions that report directly to the Provost or a Senior/Executive Associate or Vice Provost of a member institution. CFA provides a forum for developing recommendations for the professoriate of the future. Topics for discussion include: faculty development, the role of non-tenure-track faculty; tenure; dual-career positions; post-tenure review; faculty workload and accountability; and sensitive matters related to performance management and conduct.
The CFA functions as a committee within the Council on Academic Affairs (CAA) and provides regular reports to the CAA Executive Committee on their ongoing and planned activities, and any recommendations they choose to bring forward.
CFA meets to conduct business virtually throughout the year and in-person each year at the Annual Faculty Affairs Retreat and at APLU’s Annual Meeting.
Stay Connected with the CFA Community
There are multiple ways to stay connected with the CFA Community.
CFA Mailing List
For faculty affairs leaders situated in the provost’s office at APLU member institutions, we offer a mailing list that keeps members apprised of key APLU activities that may be interest to faculty affairs leaders. These updates include advertisements of huddles and other virtual convenings hosted by the Committee on Faculty Affairs, the Annual Faculty Affairs Retreat held each summer, and the APLU annual meeting.
This mailing list is managed by APLU staff on behalf of the Committee on Faculty Affairs. Sign up to be included on this mailing list (and the listserv) by filling out the CFA Community Sign Up Form.
CFA Faculty Success Listserv – Hosted by APLU
The faculty success listserv is a growing community of faculty affairs, faculty success, and faculty development professionals from universities in North America. Listserv membership is open to any interested faculty affairs professional, not just those employed by APLU member institutions.
The listserv serves as a place to share resources with colleagues, ask questions and provide support for faculty-related challenges and initiatives, share job postings and professional development opportunities, and so much more.
While APLU makes every effort to maintain privacy and confidentiality for listserv participants, communications shared via the listserv may be subject to open records requests covering any participating members’ email communications. Individuals who sign up for the listserv agree to observe the community guidelines, listed below; anyone engaging in solicitation, sales, or any inappropriate communications will be removed.
If you are interested in joining the listserv, please complete the CFA Community Sign Up Form.
APLU Faculty Success Listserv Community Guidelines
The Faculty Success listserv allows members to share ideas, ask for guidance or benchmarking information, and share opportunities to further a community focused on faculty success. The sharing of information is to reflect the wide range of practices currently in place at colleges and universities and is in no way intended to coordinate or standardize practices across institutions.
Lack of adherence to these community guidelines may result in removal from the listserv, at the discretion of APLU staff. If you have any questions about these guidelines, the faculty success listserv, or APLU’s Committee on Faculty Affairs, please email cfa@aplu.org.

- Confidentiality and Open Records. While APLU makes every effort to maintain confidentiality of listserv participants, communications shared via the listserv may be subject to open records requests covering any participating members’ email communications. Therefore, participants should use their discretion when deciding what to share in response to community members’ queries.
