COR/CAA/CIMA Virtual Webinar: Reflections on the 2025 Carnegie Classifications Changes
Thank you to everyone who joined APLU’s recent webinar on May 27, co-hosted by the Council on Academic Affairs (CAA), the Commission on Information, Measurement, and Analysis (CIMA), and COR. This session expanded on the insights shared during the September 2024 webinar on the 2025 Carnegie Classifications and featured experts from the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation. Key topics included the significant redesign of the Institutional Classification and the introduction of the new Student Access and Earnings Classification, building on the earlier release of updated research activity classifications. NOAA Research Assistant Administrator, Dr. Steve Thur and NOAA Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Director, Kaitlyn Montan provided insight into NOAA funding and engagement opportunities for universities as well as the scope of NOAA’s research, existing partnerships, and opportunities for first-time applicants. 2025 Carnegie Classification Updates and the Potential Impact of APLU Institutions

APLU’s Commission on Information, Measurement, and Analysis (CIMA) and the Council on Research (COR) hosted a recent webinar featuring experts from the American Council on Education (ACE). The session provided insights into the upcoming changes to the 2025 Carnegie Classifications, including revisions to the Basic Classification, updated research methodology, and the Social and Economic Mobility Classification.
